I have 2 RARs in 243 Predator Model, and a regular sporter in 270. Both rifles print well under MOA. The 243 Predator model printed .65 in groups at 100 yds with factory ammo. I bought a boyds stock, and bedded the action, (it probably didn't need that extra step, the innovative v shaped bedding blocks would have been fine with out being bedded) and with some handloaded 105 gr Berger loads it now prints .4 to .3 in groupings at 100. If I do my part at 400 yds I can get 2.5in groupings. But I am still working on that I will wager that if I was a better shooter, it would one hole a 3 shot group at 100. All this being said, the Rugers factory stock is a hunk of junk, and quite flimsy in the fore end. I shoot prone a lot with a bipod, and the stock will come in contact with the barrel, which led to hair pulling fits over poor accuracy until I figured that out. The trigger guard is molded plastic, but the boyds stock comes with metal trigger guard and metal mag release. The boyds stock took a cheap plastic rifle and it my humble opinion put it on par with most production rifles costing 1000 dollars or more. BUT if you don't have time or don't want to mess with putting on a new stock, the Howa or Weatherby vanguard are the best value for your money. The fit and finish is a little better than the RARs, and accuracy is quite good as mentioned in previous posts. |
